Kansas Sentencing Commission Announces the Honorable Benjamin J. Sexton Appointed Chair of Commission by Governor Laura Kelly
Topeka, Kansas – August 20, 2024-
The Kansas Sentencing Commission (KSSC) announces the appointment of Benjamin J. Sexton as Chair of the Commission. Chief Judge Sexton was appointed to the KSSC by Chief Justice Lawton R. Nuss on May 16, 2018 and has served as vice chair since July 1, 2018. Since his appointment to the Commission, Judge Sexton has played an instrumental role in evaluating the sentencing guidelines, advocating for KSSC legislation, and working with other stakeholders to advance the criminal justice system in Kansas.
Judge Sexton was appointed by Governor Bill Graves and has served as a district judge since 2001 in the 8th Judicial District (Geary, Dickinson, Marion and Morris counties). He was appointed by Chief Justice Luckert as Chief Judge on August 22, 2021. Judge Sexton attended Kansas State University and received his B.S. in 1983. In 1986, he received a J.D. at Washburn University and then practiced law until 2001. Judge Sexton replaces Judge W. Lee Fowler, Emporia, as chair of the Commission.
