At the 2024 Fall/Winter Conference of the Kansas County and District Attorneys Association, Christopher Lyon received honorable mention for Kansas Prosecutor of the Year. He currently serves as the Commission’s staff attorney and is also an assistant in the Leavenworth County Attorney’s Office.
Lyon, a graduate of the University of Dallas and Washburn School of Law, has a diverse background as a prosecutor, having served as Trego County Attorney, Assistant Ellis County Attorney, and in multiple other jurisdictions. Since 2019, he has been the staff attorney for the Kansas Sentencing Commission. A U.S. Army veteran who served from 2006 to 2011, Lyon played a key role in establishing the Veterans Treatment Court in Leavenworth County, overcoming long-standing judicial reservations and securing necessary funding with the help of Senator Jerry Moran and Former Chief Justice Lawton Nuss. In the past year and a half, Lyon has successfully prosecuted high-profile cases, including a Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) case involving a homicide and a trial convicting a father for killing his son in a DUI crash. He also secured convictions in sensitive cases involving child victims of sexual assault. Beyond his legal work, Lyon actively supports local charities and has contributed to community events such as 5k runs. The Commission is proud to have Chris as a valuable team member!
