Matthew Leavitt Appointed to Commission

KSSC announces that Matthew Leavitt has been appointed to the Commission. Mr. Leavitt is a partner and veteran trial lawyer at Hulnick, Stang, Gering & Leavitt, P.A.  He exclusively represents persons charged with crimes or facing criminal investigation with a strong emphasis on DUI and the defense of drinking driving, search and seizure, drug defense, and white collar.  His practice has taken him to courtrooms all around the State of Kansas to defend and try cases ranging from traffic infractions to complex felony charges.

Mr. Leavitt earned his undergraduate degrees from the University of Kansas in Journalism and Political Science.  He received Political Science Honors designation through Pi Sigma Alpha.  After graduating from the University of Kansas School of Law, he returned to his hometown to begin working at the firm that now bears his name.  His continuing legal education has included the National College for DUI Defense’s Summer Session, as well as the National Criminal Defense College’s Trial Practice Institute.

Mr. Leavitt serves as the current President of the Kansas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (life member) and is a past President of the Wichita Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section.  His professional memberships also include the National College for DUI Defense, the DUI Defense Lawyers Association, the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (life member), and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.  Mr. Leavitt’s work in the field of criminal justice has been recognized by Super Lawyers, Best Lawyers (US News & World Report), and he maintains an AV designation from Martindale Hubbell.  In 2025 he received a President’s Award for outstanding service to the Wichita Bar Association.
